How do we do it
We achieve this by ensuring every aspect of our courses are in direct relation to becoming successful in the Welding and Fabricating career.
We teach all aspects of the trade not just to pass a CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) weld test but how to utilize these techniques in uncomfortable positions (out of position welding), in tight areas, and we also remove the comfort of a shop and bring them into field application type welding scenarios that we recreate. This includes utilizing our community partners in giving us the opportunities to repair equipment or fabricate something they may need for a project. By doing this it better prepares the student for all aspects of the welding and metal fabricating trade giving them a good step towards success.
We also utilize the fact that most people (especially trades people) learn by using their hands, so we have implemented a program that ensures once they learn it they do it (physically) to see how it relates to what they just learned in a class room setting and bringing it to a tangible and visible entity. Since implementing this we have seen marks on tests and handouts go from border line failing to high 80s if not higher showing that it works!
